Braces-Friendly Halloween Treats

Braces-Friendly Halloween Treats

Halloween is just around the corner, and we know many of our patients are getting excited for a night packed with ghouls, ghosts, and a deluge of delicious candy. Unfortunately, some of the sweets that kids love to enjoy on Hallow’s Eve are hard, sticky, and contain sugars that wreak havoc on teeth and damage braces. To help you and your loved ones enjoy the Halloween season without damaging braces, we have drawn up a couple of braces-friendly Halloween treats that are sure to satisfy a sweet tooth without breaking braces!

3-Ingredient Truffles

These delicious, low-carb truffles come from blogger Margeaux Vittoria, and they are a breeze to make. Start out by gathering 9 oz of heavy cream, a half cup of Stevia sweetener, and four oz of chopped baking chocolate. In a small saucepan on medium-low heat, warm the cream and stir in the sweetener until the two are completely blended and the mixture is hot but not quite simmering. Next, place the chocolate in a heatproof bowl and pour the cream mixture in. Let it sit for a minute to let the chocolate melt, then whisk the mixture gently with a fork until it forms a thick liquid. Refrigerate the bowl until firm, then use a small cookie scoop to portion out the mixture into individual “truffles” on parchment paper. Refrigerate them to store and enjoy!

Ghost Fruit

Fruit, chocolate, and ghosts… what could make a better pair? For these ghostly treats, you’ll just need a package of strawberries, a small bar of paraffin wax, and a bar of white and dark chocolate. Making them is simple – just melt 8 oz of chocolate with a walnut-sized amount of paraffin wax over low heat, stirring until blended. Let the chocolate cool for a few minutes so it’s thick but still viscous, then dip a strawberry in and place it on parchment paper, gently dragging the fruit across the paper about an inch to create a “ghost tail” – you can also accentuate this with a toothpick. Repeat the process for the other fruit, then use a toothpick to gently dab on eyes and a mouth in the opposite color chocolate. Delicious, spooky, and completely braces friendly!
